Congratulations to Erin Leary, author and illustrator of Hidden Timber Books’ newest publication!
Nenookaasi Mawadishiwe: Hummingbird Visits, written and illustrated by Erin Leary, takes readers through the migratory patterns of a hummingbird, while introducing them to Ojibwemowin, the language spoken by the indigenous tribes in parts of Michigan, Ontario, northern Minnesota and Wisconsin, and Alberta. Ojibwemowin (Anishinaabemowin) is an endangered language, so we are honored to to publish Erin Leary’s debut book.
And Erin is a wonderful artist, bringing beautiful images to the pages and offering young readers a vibrant experience as they learn about a tiny bird, from the time it leaves the nest to when it returns, grown and ready to raise nestlings of his own.
We will be celebrating the release of Nenookaasi Mawadishiwe in Grand Portage, Minnesota with the Grand Portage Anishinaabeg at the end of May, as we have 200 books to share with the Band, provided with funds from the Electa Quinney Institute and Bader Philanthropies.
Join us in congratulating Erin Leary on a beautiful addition to the Hidden Timber Books catalogue and to the effort to keep Anishinaabemowin alive!
